Dignity to the Rural Girl!!!

The Micah charitable Foundation joins hands with African Sunsets Travel to help girls in Masikana and Mutekedza Secondary Schools

According to M.Riddler 2020, the global sanitary napkin market was worth $20.55 billion in 2018, and it was expected to grow to almost $28 billion by 2022. Decent  sanitary wear has become a rarity and a privilege. In Zimbabwe , sanitary pads are a luxury  item for women mainly because majority of women live below the poverty line. What’s worse is the fact that the cost of basic commodities  has risen as retailers cash in and maximize profits due to the pandemic (COVID-19). It is a sad reality that most of school girls still uses leaves  and old clothes when they are on their time time of the month. Zimbabwe is a third world country.

Upon realizing this, the Micah Charitable Foundation extended a hand to assist school girls. Micah charitable foundation is a private foundation located in the United States that assists rural schools and society in Zimbabwe’s Mutekedza and Marondera areas. African Sunsets Travel is a leading inbound travel agency which specializes in the most memorable safari experiences and sophisticated destinations in both Southern and Eastern Africa. The organisations has made a commitment to donate of its proceeds to this organisation to ensure, it continues to tackle the much needed issues and needs in Zimbabwe. Donations are being  made to Masikana and Mutekedza Secondary Schools and over 600 girls have benefitted from this campaign and each receive a six months of pads supply.

Gladys who is part of African Sunsets Travel shared her experience of growing up in a rural area and how she used cottons when it was her time of the month. “Pads are a need as there are lot of infections with using cottons, leaves and old clothes and I wish that one day we will be able to help all the girls in the third world countries”, said Gladys.
